Hail damage is primarily displayed as holes with
sharp edges in the slate, although it can include slates with
broken corners or edges.


Note the aluminum vent (above)- it has been beat
to death by the hail, but only a few of the slates have been
damaged. The damaged slates should simply be replaced.


There are lots of slates damaged by hail in the
above photo, which is a softer PA slate roof near the end of
its life and more susceptible to damage. Most of the perforated
slates are circled below.
